Chael did really well tonight but any fighter that puts together a good win streak will get a title not regardless if they are “drawable” or not that’s horseshit chael

By being the #1 promotion and with their marketing muscle and with Joe Rogan’s theatrics, the “fans” just assume the UFC has the best, b/c that’s what their marketing machine drills into our heads.

Sure, Chael was kind of knocking Arlovski, but the same situation can be applied to the Brocks, the Carwins, the Cains, etc..

People don’t think a fighter is great unless he fights in the UFC and that’s what they want you to believe. Not b/c of contract disputes, rights issues, etc..

  • 7 liyon316 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

You’re missing the entire point of what Chael just said. The UFC has the best fighters not b/c they are truly the best fighters necessarily, but b/c they have the marketing muscle of being the biggest MMA promotion in the world.

Take the heavyweight division for example. Even if you discounted Fedor’s Pride reign, he’s still the #1 HWY fighter of the past 3 years based on competition, not Brock, not Carwin, not Cain, etc… but the UFC doesn’t want you to know this.

Sonnen is a disrespectful prick for calling Rizzo, Sylvia and Ricco Rodriguez for bums. They might be considered “bums” these days, but not back then.

Still, he’s pretty much spot on with everything else he said in this interview. UFC and MMA organizations in general is all about business. Or else they wouldn’t have guys like Kimbo fighting on their card, or have old washed up fighters in a main event

UFC has taken a lot of traits from the WWE. We are now hearing terms like ‘heel’ (bad guy) being used by Mir etc.
Mir actually has learnt to enjoy the role. Fighters who want to be a big draw, and be main event will now have to be good on the mic, have charisma, good body frame, exciting fight style and trash talk.
Chael is smart enough to realise this.

look up ‘international vale tudo championship’ you pansies

  • 14 kidynamite666 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

anderson silva is considered the best because if you know anything about the international MMA scene it was a giant deal when the PRIDE fighters were comin over because some considered them to be the best, but some considered UFC fighters to be better, UFC is the official proving ground for MMA but you gotta be psychologically prepared for the pressure of performing in front of so many and whatnot so only some people can handle it

  • 15 kidynamite666 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

but Kimbo manned up on youtube and did some amateur, then TUF, kept his mouth shut now he’s proven himself if you want to make money you gotta make the bosses happy not run your mouth cause you are jealous

  • 16 kidynamite666 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

what the hell is this guy going on about what a deuche bag. theres alot of morons here who haven’t seen all of the different fight organizations, pride and ufc were considered the 2 most important leagues with the most money at stake, so all the best fighters show up obviously. now its UFC, if you think you’re good enough to make big bucks you gotta work your way up the amateur league the only guy who got a free trip was Brock/Kimbo but thats it basically

  • 17 logicCplusplus // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

BTW, Sonnen is not even close to Anderson Silva’s skill level. Just look at his track record, and look how he struggled against Nate Marquardt. His wrestling is no match for someone with quick feet and good sprawl. He will just get KO’d period.

  • 18 logicCplusplus // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

Anderson Silva goes back all the way to Pride, several other organizations in the states and all over the world where he fought and dominated everyone that stood against him. Hes not the best because the UFC says so, hes the best because we fans say so. Sonnen could talk like that all he wants of course, because there could always be some monk in China in a cave that is the best, but whoever that is – IS IRRELEVANT – since he will never have a chance to observe him, and it could even be a she.

….and FuKK YEW TWO ………… kone head

  • 21 neclg2004 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

@liyon316 ….part 2….the reason why wrestling can let anyone tryout is because wrestlers are not paid athletes. This is the same reason why strikeforce also cannot test Fedor against all other fighters. Fedor will want money to fight.

  • 22 neclg2004 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

@liyon316 ……true, but you are also missing the other part of what Chael is saying. The UFC MUST turn a profit. If the UFC were to just let anyone and EVERYONE tryout, how could the UFC turn a profit by signing 300 new heavyweights? It’s much cheaper for the UFC to offer Mussasi or Fedor a large contract rather than signing 300 nobodies and HOPE there is another Fedor or Mussasi.

  • 23 boogynights // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

Some people here know whats up with the ufc great analogy.

  • 24 juicr500 // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

Yeah. That one was my fave, as well. Chael pretty much jacked Nate’s game and he couldn’t adjust to get the victory. Sonnen deserved the win.

  • 25 xgamersourcez // Feb 8, 2010 at 6:30 am

This guy is so right. What Dana did with Andrei, he’s now doing with Anderson Silva. Don’t get me wrong that Silva’s not good, but please he hasn’t beaten anyone that great to be considered P4P number one.
